During the school year students are excited to get away from the bustle of the school week and let their ideas flow on paper or on a canvas. An individual's introduction to the arts at an early age, particularly before they reach their teen years, is a contributing factor to developing an interest in the arts and ultimately benefiting from what the arts have to offer.  At a time when arts education is losing the battle for classroom time in schools, after-school programs can offer much needed support and provide students with an additional outlet to participate in the arts.  Programs like YaA across the country are finding new and exciting ways to bring the arts to children in their communities, augmenting students' access and exposure to the variety of ways the arts can influence their lives and providing the opportunity to further develop a mastery of an art form.
